Morges, Switzerland

Eglantine district, residential buildings and parking spaces

The new Eglantine residential neighbourhood in Morges is one of the more attractive places in the region due to its proximity to the lake and the city, its easy accessibility and its scenic architectural heritage. In this new part of town, flats and neighbourhood shops have been built which are intended to be not only socially but also intergenerationally mixed.

A multifaceted architectural project

IB was commissioned to realise 3 of the 13 buildings included in the construction plan as well as a central car park serving the entire neighbourhood. In the process, the office worked with other architectural firms, a landscape architect and other contractors under the direction of Losinger Marazzi. The three residential buildings are intended to be rented out to different types of users and have areas designated for shops and activities. This diversity of functions corresponds perfectly to the concept of the neighbourhood, which focuses on social mixing, a blend of generations and the will to create a genuine piece of urban life.

The concept was based on the desire for a variety of atmospheric impressions thanks to a varying typology of the building complex distributed around different spaces and outdoor areas.

A strongly participatory approach

A participatory approach started a dialogue and made it possible to involve the population of Morges in the urban development of this project, thus creating a real social and economic dynamic. This approach aimed to define the design of the site with the stakeholders concerned, which took place in the form of workshops organised for local associations and residents. IB participated in multidisciplinary discussion workshops to test town-planning and commercial hypotheses, with the aim of optimising the housing project and creating an attractive new neighbourhood that integrates well into the local socio-economic fabric.
