IB Atelier is the centre for architecture and design within IB.
Design as nucleus and guidance in every project defines the difference between a building and architecture. Every architectural project (even unbuilt ones) contributes to the identity and the (self-) conception of IB.
The Atelier ensures the significance of architecture within IB. A space for critical discussions and project experiments. We continue to develop sustainable design strategies leading the digital transformation of our field, creating architecture that is durable and goes beyond current trends.
As a national network of locally anchored hubs we combine local knowledge with the strength of a national and international active architecture firm. This agile network adapts to each architectural challenge, creating the appropriate team and setup for the best possible result. This is our base for new and innovative design.
The design leaders of the Atelier Network meet regularly for an open exchange, enhancement of their competence and the collection of ideas. We develop strategies for projects and the design development of IB. We share one vision. This is what we call the Forum.
«The Atelier is a joining link. Here, our different offices' approaches and methods find space for debate and exchange, that implements the preliminary stages of our designs.»
UTOPIA is a biennial ideas competition for architecture students, launched in 2022 to mark the centenary of Itten+Brechbühl. In partnership with the Swiss Architecture Museum (S AM), it serves as a platform for bold, socially engaged, and architecturally grounded visions that address the urgent questions of our time. Following the themes “Learning for the Future” (2022) and “LESS” (2024), the third edition will open in late February 2026.
Specific projects require specific skills.
The focused collaboration with national and international architecture firms and experts foster innovation and quality. This is an expression of our believe in the power of joint forces and shared knowledge, that we practice in the Atelier.
