European Healthcare Design Congress (EHD2023)
From 12-14 June 2023, the European Healthcare Design Congress (EHD2023) is being held at the Seligman Theatre of the Royal College of Physicians London. IB is attending the congress in its role as major contributor to Swiss healthcare solutions in architecture. Today, the IB representatives held their speech titled «The support structure for strategic planning for long-term hospital renovations» under the topic «Strategic Planning and Investment».
In their lecture, Catherine Jaquier-Bühler, in charge of Healthcare Western Switzerland, Marwen Feriani, Healthcare Community, and Lidor Gilad, Head of Design Switzerland, speak about healthcare projects that have been ongoing for several decades, such as the Inselspital in Bern and the Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, and the conclusions IB is drawing from those endeavors. Namely, the planning and execution following the principle of system separation, the creation of landmarks for patients, staff, and visitors alike, the erection of transitional operating rooms in order to maintain the hospital operations ongoing, and the close monitoring of macro tools, such as a masterplan.
The study of life cycles and sustainable development for hospitals allows to gain an overall vision that is coherent with the development of a specific healthcare insititution in the long run.
