As a famous mountain city, everyone who lives in Chongqing has a relationship with the mountains in one way or another.
The project site has an undulating topography, which makes it difficult to design as a senior living community with accessibility requirements, but the unique topography also provides an opportunity to tap into the project's regional character and cultural heritage.
The project produced three platforms according to the terrain. The three platforms provide accessible space for the elderly to move around while minimizing the adaptation of the terrain. Dead-end accessibility is achieved through vertical traffic between platforms. The design divides the medical care and living area into five clusters, which are built into the hills, creating five communities of appropriate size and scale.
We try to create a neighborhood space with a social vibrancy, rather than a cold linear urban space. The entrance to the main clubhouse has been designed in the southern part of the project, with the main clubhouse in a central layout, with a medical care area to the east and a vibrant senior living community to the west. The design of the clubhouse area is based on the Sichuan traditional residential area, which is recreated to continue the staggered courtyard space and architectural elements of the design. The main clubhouse extends between clusters, and the final and preserved hills combine to extend some of the clubhouse functions into nature.
