For the production of its drug Cimzia, UCB has built a new production facility with three bioreactors in Bulle, Freiburg, which is one of the most modern plants for biotech drugs in the world.

The reflective shell of the building alleviates the effect of planting such a straight-lined structure in an Alpine setting. The mathematical language of the façade shows the various functions of the building. The interior design is an open network which creates a clear structure. Maximum use is made of the available space.

The usages are complex: three reactors for which 33 kilometres of pipelines were laid, cleaning and storage tanks, labs for quality assurance, maintenance and storage space as well as offices.
