The site of the Bollwerk 2-8 project lies between the inner city and the university, directly beside the SBB tracks. What today is the station's logistical centre with supply and disposal processes and luggage handling, is to be reorganised in the future.
The underlying conditions for the new building to replace the old one were discussed as part of a feasibility study and a subsequent discursive procedure. The proposed dismantling of the North hall will emphasise the unique position of the new reception building; at the same time, individual areas of the town will become more comprehensible and historical visual axes will be reopened. The development will take on the building heights applied in the town to ensure that no new «lighthouses» are created, and the structure of the district is maintained.
