The Migros Zurich Cooperative (GMZ) was constructing a new building in Reichenburg, with its main purpose being the sale of goods.
The basement and the ground floor were planned as a solid construction mainly of prefabricated concrete elements. The ground floor and first floor ceilings are designed as lightweight timber constructions. A photovoltaic system is located on the flat roof of the ground floor.
The overall aim of the project was to develop and establish a reference project for the supermarket typology of Migros.
With regard to a reasonable cost benchmark for a retail shop, this strategy was achieved through the optimised conversion flexibility of the sales area as well as ceiling installations for the building services by reducing the number of columns and installing a timber frame system.
In this way, the architecture combines the flexibility of use, the construction costs, the optimised construction time and the ecological construction method harmoniously.
