Hirslanden Bern AG optimized clinical workflows and improved space utilization at Beau-Site Clinic in Bern. The project created the infrastructure needed to support the long-term development of emergency medicine, cardiac care, and visceral surgery services while providing additional capacity for future growth.
Delivered between 2019 and 2021, the project was executed in four phases while the hospital remained fully operational. The scope included the renovation and modernization of the Endoscopy Room, Day Clinic, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, Intermediate Care Unit, Recovery Room, and Emergency Department, all redesigned to meet future clinical and operational requirements.
A key challenge was delivering the project during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the uncertainties associated with the crisis and the simultaneous need to expand intensive care capacity, construction activities continued without interruption. To facilitate the refurbishment of the Emergency Department, its operations were temporarily relocated to the newly completed Day Clinic before it was commissioned. This solution enabled the phased execution of the renovation works while ensuring uninterrupted patient care throughout the project.
The refurbishment of the intervention and care areas and the technical infrastructure required meticulous planning and close coordination between hospital operations and construction activities. Through the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, the project was completed successfully and on schedule in July 2021.
