First place in the integrated design-build competition for the new Aebimatte school campus in Burgdorf
Flexibility, sustainability, and circular design principles are at the heart of the project.
We are delighted to have been awarded first prize in the design-build competition for the new Aebimatte School in Burgdorf.
Developed in close collaboration with the entire design team, the winning proposal, Arcadia, will provide the City of Burgdorf with a flexible, modular timber school campus designed to adapt to changing educational needs. The project plays a key role in the city’s long-term school development strategy and will support the planned renovation of neighboring school facilities. Built with longevity in mind, the campus is designed to accommodate future changes, expansion, and evolving patterns of use.
The campus is organized around three distinct buildings grouped around a shared courtyard and connected by a continuous arcade. Together, they create a diverse sequence of spaces for learning, gathering, and everyday school life. A clear organizational structure, a high degree of flexibility, and a strong commitment to sustainability and circular construction principles are at the core of the design.
