Roche pRED Center, Basel

Final stage in the construction of the new Roche pRED research centre. In 2023, the various building parts of the pRED Centre will be successively structurally completed.

Since its founding in 1922 by Otto Rudolf Salvisberg and Otto Brechbühl, thousands of IB employees have helped to write Swiss construction and architectural history.

With the realisation of the pRED Center, we are building on the Roche master plan, which was originally designed by Otto Rudolf Salvisberg.

The design is by the Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron. The buildings are staggered in height up to the tallest building, Building 7 at approx. 114m.

With an investment volume of CHF 1.2 billion and around 1800 employees, the pRED Centre is currently IB's largest construction site.

Building 4 houses the Convention Centre, auditoriums and training rooms, while Buildings 5-7 house the Innovation Centre, offices, laboratories and meeting zones.

LEAN management is used to create weekly forecasts, which allows the construction activities of all trades to be managed.

Coordination meetings with guided tours of the buildings take place twice a week in the morning. In this way, disruptions and project risks are recorded on site and solutions are sought.

The pRED project wins the "Lean Construction Project Award".

«In essence, therefore, we stand today as we did 100 years ago; as a competent partner for the design, planning and realisation of demanding building projects. We have remained curious and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.»
