What does the VDC/BIM community do?
Digital technologies are transforming how we live, work, and collaborate, with far-reaching implications for architecture. Yet the architect’s core task remains unchanged: to communicate ideas clearly, precisely, and convincingly. Throughout history, representational tools have shaped architectural thinking and communication, from Vitruvius’s principles of proportion and spatial representation to Palladio’s measured drawings and perspectival views, and later to Gaudí’s chain-arch model for the parametric design of the Sagrada Familia.
Today, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), and smart building technologies expand the architectural toolkit. They also change how teams work together, structure information, and make decisions throughout the planning process.
At IB, interdisciplinary collaboration has long been central to our work. Model-based workflows make this collaboration more transparent, efficient, and reliable, while helping us continuously improve our planning processes.
How the VDC Core Team Strengthens Digital Project Delivery
The VDC Core Team brings together representatives from our four business areas as well as the specialists responsible for our CAD and BIM software environments. Together, they coordinate project processes across all planning phases and translate them into practical digital standards. By developing shared methods and workflows, IB strengthens the quality, consistency, and efficiency of digital project delivery.
