New building Garage Rank - laying of the foundation stone

On Tuesday, April 8, we celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for the new Garage Rank building together with the client, project partners and Basel politicians.

The festivities were accompanied by speeches from Basel government councilor Esther Keller and representatives of BVB, IWB and IB. Together we buried a commemorative box in the foundation of the new building, containing memorabilia of the BVB as well as construction plans of the former and new Garage Rank. We would like to thank the BVB and all those involved for the successful event marking this significant milestone.

IB is responsible for the architecture, general planning and construction management of the new building, the construction phase of which successfully started in February 2025. In spring 2027, the new Garage Rank, with an area of 40,000 m2 for more than 140 e-buses, charging stations, workshops and offices, will open. The BVB, which will operate all public transport in the canton of Basel-Stadt with 100 percent renewable energy from 2027, is thus playing a pioneering role in Switzerland. In the new building, great importance is being placed on the most sustainable and environmentally friendly construction method possible, the reuse of existing components, the generation of electricity through PV systems, and the greening of the roof, facade and surrounding area.
