Our annual internal FOKUS event was held last Tuesday with the highly relevant theme "Architecture and Digital Workflows". The event featured guest speakers from Herzog & de Meuron, 3XN, and Opensource.Construction.
To kick things off, Lidor Gilad, our Head of Design Switzerland, and Carolin Schaal, our Head of VDC Switzerland, discussed the processes and opportunities for future project design and implementation at IB.
Pierre Chèvremont, our Head of AI, opened the discussion on Artificial Intelligence, followed by guest speakers Michael Drobnik, Lead Design Technologies at Herzog & de Meuron; Montgomery de Luna, AI specialist at 3XN; and Maximilian Vomhof, founder of Opensource.Construction. They illustrated how they apply digital workflows in their respective organizations.
During a panel discussion, our external experts, along with Carolin Schaal and Lidor Gilad, reflected on how architectural firms can strike the right balance between specialized roles (BIM, sustainability, or AI) and the general skills of architects. The conversation also covered how individual projects and company-wide initiatives can be effectively supported, and how knowledge and tools can be shared among various players in the construction industry.
The lively discussion highlighted the importance of discourse on rapid digital advancements within the context of complex, large-scale architectural projects. At the same time, it became evident that talented people remain essential in navigating and managing the vast array of digital tools.
