The Bellinzona Oncology Research Institute (IOR) opened a project competition for the construction of new laboratories. The jury awarded second prize to our “kaleidoscope” project.
We thank the entire project team for their contribution and commitment.
The new laboratory building for the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) in Bellinzona, located near the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), aims to provide an excellent infrastructure for research, development and teaching in the field of biomedicine.
Flexible spaces and great adaptability to the individual and future needs of researchers are the key words of the project, in addition to the opportunity to create an attractive workplace for all IOR employees. With its open space areas, it promotes easy and direct exchange between the various research groups, resulting in a space for science and interdisciplinary research.
In addition, it was intended to emphasize the promotion of interdisciplinarity by designing short distances between departments, while the proximity of the directors' offices to the workstations of postdocs breaks down old hierarchical structures.
Upon entering the new building, employees and visitors are greeted by an inviting atrium. The spaces are open and transparent: a variety of visual references facilitate orientation in the building and are intended to contribute to the well-being of the users. Visual and physical connections, both horizontally and vertically, are intended to promote networking and interaction between researchers. The project focused on sustanaibility in all phases.
