2nd place in project competition collection point and integration services in Loren, Uster

We have achieved 2nd place in the project competition for the replacement facility of the collection point and integration services in Loren, Uster. Koya Architektur emerged as the winner of the competition.

We focused on operational processes, embodied energy reduction (Minergie-ECO) reduction, circularity, reuse, and ecology.

The two-story volume features a high permeability between the outdoor areas. The ground floor houses the collection point, while the upper floor contains spaces for integration services (a repair workshop and a swap space). This arrangement leads to a clear separation of functions and facilitates operational processes. A striking external staircase that simultaneously serves as a landmark, an observation tower, and an orientation aid highlights the public function of the building.

The project's supporting structure is made from reusable wood, while the base is constructed from recycled concrete, ensuring intensive operational use on the ground floor. Elements from the existing collection point are integrated into the new building wherever possible – a measure that further reduces embodied CO2 emissions. Parts of the building envelope are greened vertically and horizontally to promote biodiversity.
