Residences for the elderly and those requiring care, Bethesda Park, Basel

Residential buildings spanning the generations in green park

The Bethesda residential development is located in the middle of a park landscape. So far the private complex comprises the Burckhardt Villa, the vicarage, the acute hospital and the Gellert-Hof nursing home opened in the summer of 2014. The site is to be expanded to include a residential building for the elderly and those requiring care, fitting into the context of care graded according to needs and responsibility spanning the generations.

The redesign of the site picks up on the existing structures in architectural terms. The positioning and the height of the new buildings will respond to the varied sizes and typologies of the existing buildings in the complex. The new buildings form an internal town in the overall site with a central encounter zone as the social hub.
