Lyssbachpark, Service building with residential element and apartments for the elderly, Site I, Lyss BE
Living and working in a suburban centre
Because Lyss lies in the middle between Bern and Biel, the Canton of Bern has incorporated a former industrial site near the station in its priority programme for economic development. A service centre with rental apartments, apartments for the elderly and service areas has been constructed in the eastern section of the site.
The four-storey structure of the centre, 146 metres long, forms a barrier to the north against the railway buildings; three smaller structures stand opposite it in a row with passageways. The intervening space is composed of a generous esplanade. Balconies and terraces relieve the façades with their decidedly clear lines. The modestly designed outer façades form a framework around the centre. The inward-facing façades along the esplanade evoke a Mediterranean feel with their warm colours.
A wide variety of uses ensures that the new Lyss centre is and remains a popular spot.
