Berne Stadttheater: Refurbishment «Sub-project Red - backstage area/storage wing»
The theatre building on Kornhausplatz in Berne which was completed in 1903, is in urgent need of refurbishment. The intention is not only to guarantee its operational safety from a health and safety perspective and to carry out the necessary maintenance work, but also to make the theatre more attractive for audiences.
The entire project is split into three parts of which Itten+Brechbühl has taken on the «sub-project Red» to optimise the backstage area (with dressmaker's, milliner's, decorator's workshop and props department) and the storage wing (rehearsal rooms for choir and ballet, dressing-rooms). The focus was on achieving spatial and organisational improvements within the given confines as well as refurbishing the building engineering and systems equipment.
